The forest area called “Sylva aut nemus arbores belli” ( The war tree forest) is known since the XI century and its named derivates from a bandits confrontation that took place in this area. Alberobello rice on the slopes of “lama” without any defensive enclosure nor territory, free form representative buildings, patrician houses or cloister, developing improvised with one floor houses, on narrow and widening streets and houses surrounded by vegetable gardens. A community developed, held by Count Giangirolamo Acquaviva d’Aragona Counts of Conversano who plainly broke the customary rule that prevented the feudal vassals from building new towns without the royal permission. In 1797 the people from Alberobello after many years of precarious means of existence presented a petition of help to the Spanish King Ferdinand IV of Aragon and give them freedom on May 27th 1797. |
